AUTOMATIC GRENADE LAUNCHER (AGL) 40 mm

The 40 mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL) is a left-hand belt fed, long recoil, open breech grenade launcher in 40 mm x 53 mm calibre. The long recoil system results in a light-weight breech block (2.15 kg). This is a precondition to the envisaged indirect role of the system which is a requirement of military forces. The weapon is used as a support weapon by the infantry as a vehicle or tripod mounted weapon..

40 mm Y3 AGL indirect electronic sight
.
The indirect electronic sight was developed for the Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL) to assist the user during indirect aiming. The maximum range of the AGL is 2 050 metres for indirect fire. In a typical situation the AGL does not have line of sight to the target. An observation post (OP) uses a laser range finder with built in compass to determine the co-ordinates of the target. The OP information and the co-ordinates of the AGL are entered into the ballistic computer, which calculates the range and bearing to the target via tilt sensors and a range table, after which the gunner can set his weapon on the target.
